From 1963 a suffix, then prefix, indicates the 'year'. Modern registrations are identified by a two digit number, e.g. 05 or 55, to indicate which year and which part of the year.
Please note that you cannot make a vehicle appear younger than it is through the assignment of a cherished registration.
